Frankfurt Historical Museum

Competition for the conversion and renovation of the Historical Museum in Frankfurt am Main.

In terms of urban planning, the competition entry envisages an extension facing the Nikolaikirche (St. Nicholas' Church), which will take up the historical proportions of the street again and thus itself become a tangible document of the times. Towards the "Fahrtor", the existing façade on the ground floor will be "deconstructed" and the pension tower will once again be freely visible from the Römerberg.

A generous staircase opens the building with the inner courtyard to the city.

The extension restructures the entire museum.

The visitor is welcomed in a three-storey space that provides a direct insight into a large part of the collection and invites visitors to take a tour. At the interface to the old building, the exhibition paths meet on all floors.

Visual connections across all floors facilitate orientation and make the building an architectural experience.
