Terminal long-distance station

New construction of the long-distance train station terminal at Frankfurt/Main Airport.

At Frankfurt/Main Airport, the so-called terminal building takes over the interface function between rail and air. The station was elevated above the A3 motorway and functional areas on an area of approx. 84x75m were attached to the side of the actual, 16m wide connecting tube, which are necessary for fast passenger handling.

Not only was the ultra-modern architectural language intended to reflect DB's new self-image as a forward-looking company, but a previously unheard-of level of customer comfort combined with particularly high standards of environmental compatibility and sustainability was also intended to make this tangible.
The aim was to reduce CO2 consumption as much as possible while making optimum use of natural resources and minimizing operating costs at the same time.
